The case for Mouri Beach
Best at sunrise when low side light defines the texture · aerial work is genuinely worth it · midday light is harsh and rarely worth prioritising.
Best time to shoot
Sunrise to 09:00 — lagoon reflections peak before wind arrives
Sunrise or sunset?
Lagoon at its most vivid. Seabirds active. Calm conditions before north coast wind builds.
Light direction notes
North-facing beach at sunrise. Sun rises to the east-northeast — oblique light rakes across the lagoon surface.
Drone timing
Accessible lagoon shore makes this one of the easier drone launch locations near Hadibo. Fly low over the lagoon for the colour gradient from sandbar to deep channel. Inland aerials reveal the dragon blood tree stands against the coastal backdrop.
Conditions to avoid
Midday sun flattens contrast and burns out highlights; breezier afternoons can unsettle a tripod; outside oct, nov, dec, jan, feb, mar, apr, conditions become unreliable.
Composition tips
Wide-angle (16-35mm) for lagoon reflections including foreground ripple detail. Telephoto for seabirds working the surf line. The dragon blood tree stands inland are worth the short walk — use them with the coast as background for environmental portraits.
Lens suggestions
Wide lens recommended. Open landscapes reward 16–35mm to capture sky-to-ground sweep.
Reality check
Turquoise lagoons are most vivid in the first two hours of daylight before any wind ripple breaks the surface. Dragon Blood Tree stands are set slightly inland — a 10-15 minute walk from the shoreline. Seabirds are active along the shoreline at dawn.
