socotra.guide is an independent travel and photography guide for Socotra island. This page explains what data we collect, why, and what your rights are. We try to keep it short and honest.
Who runs this site
socotra.guide is operated by Martin Bonov (KICKFLIP, Sofia, Bulgaria). For any privacy-related question, write to martin@kickflip.design.
What we collect
We only collect data when you actively give it to us, or when you opt in to analytics.
Trip inquiries
When you submit the inquiry form to plan a trip, we collect your name, email, phone (if provided), preferred dates, group size, and any notes you write. We use this data to forward your request to the licensed Socotra tour operator you select. Inquiries are stored on Supabase (EU region) and retained for up to 24 months so we can follow up if needed. After that, they're deleted.
Analytics
If you accept analytics, we load Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages visitors find useful, where you came from, and what device you use. We do not collect IP addresses in identifiable form (GA4 anonymises them by default), and we do not run any advertising or remarketing tags. If you decline, no analytics scripts load and no cookies are set.
Photographer accounts
If you sign up as a contributing photographer, we store your email, display name, optional website/Instagram, and the photos you submit. This data is necessary to attribute your work and contact you about submissions.
Who else sees your data
- Supabase — hosts the database and authentication. EU region.
- Cloudflare — serves the website (Workers + DNS). May process IP addresses for routing and DDoS protection (legitimate interest).
- Resend — sends inquiry notifications to operators. Receives the data you enter into the inquiry form.
- Google Analytics 4 — only if you accept analytics. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
- Tour operators — when you submit an inquiry, we share its contents with the operator you select so they can respond to you.
We never sell your data. We never share it for advertising.
Your rights
Under GDPR (and equivalent laws in your jurisdiction) you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you
- correct inaccurate data
- request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
- withdraw consent at any time (e.g. by declining cookies via the banner)
- lodge a complaint with your data protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, email martin@kickflip.design. We respond within 30 days.
Cookies
See the cookie notice for what we set, why, and how to disable them.
Changes
If we ever change this policy materially, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We don't email subscribers about policy changes since we don't have a marketing list.
