Arher Beach & Dunes
White sand dunes tumbling directly into the ocean on the east coast. The dunes reach 100m in places; at sunrise the light rakes across them in long shadows while the sea glitters below. Cliff caves are accessible at low tide. Strong wind reduces afternoon drone stability significantly.
01
Why it's special
The visual of desert dune meeting ocean is almost cinematic. Combined with the cave access at low tide and some of the island's best star photography at night, Arher rewards the early riser.

What to expect
White sand dunes tumbling directly into the ocean on the east coast. The dunes reach 100m in places; at sunrise the light rakes across them in long shadows while the sea glitters below. Cliff caves are accessible at low tide. Strong wind reduces afternoon drone stability significantly.
03
Reality check
Wind often makes afternoon drone flights impossible. Fly at sunrise — conditions are calm for 1-2 hours after dawn, then deteriorate fast.

Shoot it right.
The case for Arher Beach & Dunes
Best at sunrise when low side light defines the texture · drone is allowed but wind kills most flights past mid-morning · avoid midday when wind and harsh light combine.
Best time to shoot
Sunrise only — wind rises quickly after dawn
Sunrise or sunset?
Essential. The shadow texture on the dunes only exists at low sun. Wind is calm. The cliff face catches warm light. · Wind is usually too strong for drones. Landscape photography of the cliff face and dunes in warm light is possible but drone is not recommended.
Light direction notes
East-facing dune faces catch direct sunrise light. The west face stays in shadow — strong leading lines.
Drone timing
Launch from the dune crest at sunrise. Wind is manageable for 60-90 minutes. The frame: dune foreground sloping down to beach and sea. Fly along the dune ridge for the shadow texture at low sun angle.
Conditions to avoid
Midday sun flattens contrast and burns out highlights; strong afternoon wind disrupts long exposures and grounds drones; outside oct, nov, dec, jan, feb, mar, conditions become unreliable.
Composition tips
The key shot is dune foreground, beach strip, ocean horizon — a three-layer composition. Long shadows from the dune ridges work only at very low sun angle, so the window is short. Caves at the cliff base frame well with the dune above.
Lens suggestions
Wide lens recommended. Open landscapes reward 16–35mm to capture sky-to-ground sweep.
Reality check
Strong wind reduces drone stability from mid-morning onward. Fly within the first 1-2 hours of sunrise. The dune-meets-ocean composition works from the dune ridge looking down. Cliff caves are accessible at low tide — check tide times the night before.
